Eco-Schools is a worldwide initiative and award scheme which actively promotes environmental awareness in schools.

At Castlereagh Nursery School we are very proud to participate in the Eco-Schools Programme. We are currently working towards our “Green Flag” status. Every child is a member of our Eco-Committee, with the staff leading regular discussions and activities around environmental issues and initiatives. The children also helped to create an Eco-Code for our school to help us promote our environmental awareness.

We are currently prioritising our knowledge and skills through various projects in the following areas:

  • Waste- reducing, reusing and recycling.
  • Outdoor learning- observing changes in seasons and our surroundings, exploring the great outdoors, exploring nature in our forest area with our suits and wellies on.
  • Healthy living- planting vegetables, using the vegetables we have planted to make food with, healthy snack, physical exercise, mental health and well-being.

“At Castlereagh we recycle every day. Healthy living is our way.”
